Curriculum

The national shift from locally designed curriculums to nationally designed curriculums has taken root. Colorado is one of the states that has adopted the National Common Core Standards. Thus, Salida has also adopted the national core standards. This is a good thing. Consistency in what we expect students to know, do and achieve is wonderful with local power to figure out how to make it happen. Locally we have taken those broad strokes and identified essentials that each content and grade level will ensure is mastered by all students. Teachers cover a broad area of content and skills, but ensure that every child is a master of what is necessary. By doing this we can ensure that students are competent in the basics. Overall thinking skills are pushed over data collection or memorization. You can find more about our values as a community and school and how the curriculum is striving to support our vision by reading the Strategic Plan.
